NDIS Provider Compliance: What You Need to Know

NDIS providers are legally responsible for accurate, truthful and complete payment claims. The NDIA actively monitors compliance and can require repayment for unsupported claims. Here's what you need to know to stay compliant.

Your responsibility as a provider

You are responsible for ensuring all claims are complete, truthful and accurate. The NDIA reviews claims regularly and can select you for a compliance audit at any time. Unsupported claims may need to be repaid.

The Provider Payment Assurance Program (PPAP)

The PPAP confirms the accuracy of payment requests submitted by registered providers. If selected, you will need to provide complete evidence of the supports you were paid for.

Records you must keep for PPAP reviews

Participant's name and reference number (NDIS number)
Date(s) and total hours/quantity of support delivered each session
Support type delivered
Location of support delivery
Approved service agreement (schedule, cost, type, quality, expected outcomes)
Approved quotes (where applicable)
Evidence of support quantity (logs, rosters)
Evidence of support type (case notes, reports)
Staff rosters
Final reports or assessments

Compliance Monitoring

The NDIA conducts regular compliance reviews. They may contact you to provide information about supports you have been paid for. If your claims are found unsupported, the consequences can be serious.

Repayment required

If claims cannot be evidenced, you may be required to repay those amounts to the NDIA.

Referral to Commission

Unsupported claims may be referred to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.

Registration revocation

Serious or repeated non-compliance can result in your registered provider status being revoked.

Pre-payment reviews

Some claims are reviewed before payment. Do not resubmit held claims — this is non-compliant.

NDIS Practice Standards & Code of Conduct

Registered NDIS providers must comply with the NDIS Practice Standards and the NDIS Code of Conduct . These set the quality and safety requirements for all NDIS service delivery.

Act with respect for individual rights to freedom of expression, self-determination, and decision-making
Respect the privacy of people with disability
Provide supports and services in a safe and competent manner
Act with integrity, honesty and transparency
Promptly take steps to raise and act on concerns about matters that might have an impact on the quality and safety of supports
Take all reasonable steps to prevent and respond to all forms of violence, exploitation, neglect and abuse
Take all reasonable steps to prevent sexual misconduct
